Past Applications : Rodolphus # IC info: Name: Rodolphus Lestrange Date of Birth: February 20, 1956 House and School: Slytherin, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Family and Relationships with each:
Father : Mr. Lestrange and his first born son had a more or less stereotypical father-son relationship. That is to say, there certainly weren't any extremes like group hugs and family fun nights or any real physical or mental abuse. While in his childhood years Rodolphus was a bit of a handful, as he matured and allowed himself to be cultivated into a fine Lestrange man (although this in itself is a little eccentric) and suitable heir, he became someone that his father could be proud of. They respected each other, Rodolphus especially his father, and while he took his father's advice to heart and strived to please him, he certainly wasn't what would be considered someone Rodolphus modeled himself after. In his teenage years, Rodolphus presented himself in a very business like fashion towards his father, not so much a doting son as like an opportunist who was very good at acting like a doting son.
Mother : Rodolphus was certainly a great deal softer towards his mother than his father. He was always better at expressing himself to his mother and the woman is the parent who actually got to "know" their son. Once he grew out of his temper tantrum life stage, Rodolphus' interactions with his mother were usually endearing, light teasing and jokes and talking about girls. Mrs. Lestrange was definitely the one to give Rodolphus a lot of the important talks that parents give children, such as the dreaded Sex talk and instructions on how to properly treat a lady. After the death of Mr. Lestrange and when Rodolphus became head of the house hold, he took extra good care of his mother up until her death - an event that struck Rodolphus a little harder than anyone could have possibly foreseen given his usual Devil May Care attitude towards life.
Brother : Mrs. Lestrange's pregnancy with Rabastan was a difficult one and given that in his childhood Rodolphus was a little hellion, when the doctor ordered Mrs. Lestrange to strict bed rest for the last month of her pregnancy, she took it in the country several hundred miles away from her son and husband. When she finally came back with baby Rabastan in tow, Rodolphus was reluctant to believe that the baby was actually his little brother since he hadn't witnessed him actually being born. Growing up, Rodolphus treated his brother a lot like a guinea pig, using him as the subject for all his experiments and dragging him on all of his adventures. As he matured, Rodolphus became even closer and closer to Rabastan and includes him in almost everything he does
Wife : Given the opinion that a Death Eater couldn't possibly understand let alone be capable of something like love, Rodolphus' relationship with his wife is something of a peculiarity given that he is, well, in love with her. While he was a bit of a playboy in his adolescence, Rodolphus never seriously pursued any girl other than Bellatrix and if he did chase a skirt or two it was only to get her attention. His courtship of her was an odd one and consisted mostly of mean pranks, taunting, name calling, and picking fights. He likes to believe that Bellatrix was able to see through his ruse as they were eventually married. Rodolphus puts his wife above all other things, including his family, and thus, her dedication to the Dark Lord is Rodolphus' own.
General Personality: Above all Rodolphus is, oddly enough, a social butterfly. He enjoys interacting with other people immensely, despite their background, magical ability, or blood line. That isn't to say he actually likes the people he rubs elbows with as he doesn't really like anyone other than his family and wife, he just enjoys dealing with them. His fascination with people extends even to the Muggle world and unlike other Purebloods, he isn't afraid to explore this alternative world and all of its curiosities. He enjoys pushing people's buttons and doing whatever it takes to get some sort of passionate reaction out of another person within the boundary of manners. While no one could ever say that Rodolphus was the epitome of gentlemanly grace, he's certainly not going to belch at the table or be openly rude in a public setting.
Another thing he enjoys greatly is science to the point where in those later post-Azkaban years when his mind's a little gone, he's been caught referring to himself as a "mad scientist". Before, during, and after his time at Hogwarts, Rodolphus spent time studying physiology, anatomy, and biology. He enjoys performing experiments on things, animals, and people, often when creatures an beings are still alive. This extracurricular knowledge helped him a great deal in school with Transfiguration and later materialized itself when Rodolphus found out he preferred to terrorize the world as a Death Eater not so much by his wand (although he's something of a wiz at the Cruciatus Curse) but instead with a knife.
Rodolphus Lestrange is Rodolphus Lestrange's number one fan! He really thinks he's great! This isn't with the same narcissism as, say, the Malfoys, but more like an adoring fan boy for...himself! He says and does a lot of things he think will make him look cool, tough, rich, scary, funny, cute, handsome, debonair, whatever image he's trying to promote for himself. For example, when he wants to appear worldly and knowledgeable he'll strut around smoking a cigar, or if he wants to be charismatic he'll strut around in fancy suits and shiny shoes. During the war, he came up with several nick names for himself (such as The Butcher) and after his big Azkaban breakout he even sent the Prophet self written articles bragging about his exploits.
During the war, Rodolphus was never really the brains of the operation. Instead, he fancied himself more of an attack dog and prided himself on his brutal savagery. He never hesitated to do those dirty jobs other people got queasy about or didn't want to accept. He was never afraid of getting caught, being found out, or becoming notorious. In fact, he'd much rather have everyone in the Wizarding World know what a real terror the Lestrange family was.
Strengths: Rodolphus is a man very dedicated to his goals and ideals. He will work hard and ceaselessly to achieve what he wants and isn't afraid to make the sacrifices necessary to achieve his desires. This makes him a very loyal individual when it comes to things like Pureblood ethics and later Voldemort and his marriage to Bellatrix Black. Under the tutelage of his father, Rodolphus learned several skills to both meet his desired ends and to give himself a bit of an edge in both Dark Magic, networking with other Pureblood families, and how to throw around the weight of their family's name and wealth.
Rodolphus is also rather silver-tongued when it comes to dealing with other people. He fancies himself a sweet talker when it comes to the ladies and charismatic with the men. Whether this belief is a delusion or not has nothing to do with the fact that Rodolphus does at least know how to act. He is very polite and mindful of himself and his manners now that he's seventeen. A lot of the older Pureblood family members seem to enjoy this trait in particular as not many children his age know how to properly act and address their elders.
A third strength would be Rodolphus' willingness and ability to do the dirty work. While he wants the best for his family, he doesn't mind working hard to achieve this. He doesn't mind getting his hands bloody and taking on the tasks that some of his peers may be a little shy or squeamish about. He'll suck up, placate, hurt, maim, and probably even murder for the right person if asked.
Weaknesses: Rodolphus biggest flaw is probably his almost complete inability to think before he acts. As opposed to the quiet, thoughtful, devious kind of villain he is the shoot first and ask questions later type of person. This lack of tact and caution could prove to be very detrimental to him given the right circumstances. Hand in hand with his thoughtlessness, Rodolphus is very easily swayed to follow orders, especially if they're given to him by people he views as figures of authority, people he respects, or people he wants to like him. Another flaw would be Rodolphus' bad temper. He is an easy man to provoke if one knows how to do it. This, combined with his fanatical devotion to his family name, makes Rodolphus an easy man to manipulate and control by the right sort of person.
Rodolphus is the kind of individual who is used to having everything go his way and when things around him deviate from that trend, or when they start going poorly, Rodolphus crashes hard from the dose of reality. When he throws a temper tantrum they can often last for days and in them is he moody and gloomy and obnoxiously victimized and he will take his bad mood out on absolutely anyone that gets close enough. These bouts of annoyed depression last for days in which he is completely useless without the proper distraction.
Thirdly, his family's penchant for mental illness is a disease that hasn't seemed to skip Rodolphus. While he isn't outwardly running around eating crayons and smearing feces on the wall while singing Henry the Eighth, it's apparent that those types of behaviors may very well be his future. This is possibly his biggest secret and he guards it religiously especially from the other Pureblood families as it would certainly impede his chances with marriage dealings. He keeps his more psychotic thoughts to himself and has perfected a mask of relative normalcy to wear for the public.
Fears: Rodolphus is terribly afraid of Werewolves, which made for some rather amusing Death Eater gatherings when Fenrir Greyback was about. Post Azkaban, he also developed a healthy fear of the prison and especially Dementors, not so much for the Kiss but because of the bad memories they always brought up. Rodolphus is also afraid of growing old, getting wrinkles, and especially of becoming useless, overlooked, and forgotten about.
Aspirations: Growing up, Rodolphus main goal in life was to make the Lestrange name one that was actually known like the Blacks and the Malfoys. While he didn't have the expansive family tree or the disgusting amount of money as the other family's did, he was undaunted in his quest to make the name Lestrange infamous, no matter what it was infamous for. He also very much wants to have a family and a son to pass on his legacy. There never really seemed to be any time for this particular desire, however, and thus makes it possibly Rodolphus' greatest regret.
Worst Memory: Rodolphus worst memory would easily be of his mother's death. While there wasn't anything particularly gruesome about it, it was difficult for Rodolphus to deal with and even more difficult for him to let go of her once she passed (in fact he did hang on to her although that will all be explained in the timeline)
Description and how it changed throughout their life, if at all: PB(Provide Link Please): Michael Gandolfi, Jude Law.
Talents (Not the same as strengths): Rodolphus is rather talented with the Cruciatus Curse. While he's also able to cast Avada Kedavra, Crucio is by far his biggest strength. Rodolphus is also very good at Transfiguration given his interests in the human body and how it works. He's also pretty talented at acting, that is, presenting himself one way while really feeling another way. He fancies himself quite the model bully as well.
Habits: Rodolphus is very much a slave to the habit of following his feelings and desires. He'll do whatever he wants to do without considering the consequences. He also has a tendency to, when very deep in thought, think out loud. He can't seem to pass a reflective surface without stopping to take a peek at himself. In his youth this was because he thought himself devilishly handsome but as he got older it was out of fear of and to check for wrinkles, age spots, et cetera.
What the character admires about his/herself: His good looks, his blood line, the wife he managed to land, the level of infamy his family name has reached, that he's good at his job (killing, maiming, inspiring fear that is), pretty much himself, really. He can do no wrong and nothing's ever his fault.
What the character dislikes about his/herself: The fact that he can't seem to grasp the concept of planning ahead and the fact that he seemingly can't sit still for ten minutes. He's also rather embarrassed about the fact that when he gets really emotional, he can't control himself, especially when he's scared. The amount of inbreeding in his family line is also a bit of a big secret. His failure to actually start a family of his own is, as I've said, quite a regret.
What characteristics they find admirable in others: People who are intelligent, witty, and in control of themselves. Being able to back up your words is also something he can respect. A fine lineage, like something the Black's have, and with such admirable family members is worthy of down right idol worship in his book. He isn't so much swayed by power as he is people who seem to be more powerful than they really are. Good manners certainly don't hurt either.
What characteristics they despise in others: Rude, loud, or otherwise obnoxious and unmannerly behavior. People who whine constantly about their lot in life without doing anything themselves to change it. People who brag constantly when they really don't have anything worth bragging about, the exceptionally meek.

POST WAR:
Voldemort wins - go about still doing the Dark Lord's business, maybe starting a family or urging his brother to, something like that. Tracking down Ministry Aurors, Order members, Harry and his gang to bring them to their death "justice". I'm sure he'll have problems coping with being free once again.
Voldemort looses (AU BOARD as I understand it) - evading the law, run ins with Ministry Aurors and Order members, captures, escapes, death?
